Hero MotoSports Team Rally continues their Podium run

Nacho deliver his first podium in Stage 3

Hero MotoSports Team Rally bounced back strongly in the Stage 3 of the Rally du Maroc, with Nacho Cornejo putting behind yesterday’s setback to secure his first podium finish for the team with 3rd place finish and another strong stage run from Mike, finishing outside of a podium position for the first time in 4th place in the Rally 2 category.

After stage 3, Mike finds himself firmly placed in the 2nd position in Rally 2 category and 8th overall, while Nacho moves up by 2 places to enter back into the top 10 in the 9th place in the overall rankings and maintaining his 7th place in the Rally GP.

For Shlok, it was another tough outing in the rally as he met with a crash around 130 km mark which brought his run in the stage 3 to a premature halt. As per the information received at the time of filing this report, he was doing fine and was on his back to the bivouac to reunite with the team.

Stage 3 of the rally was an entirely different story. It was a much faster terrain with more sandy tracks and the longest selective section of the rally with 360 kms to be done on the clock. The stage offered all sorts of terrain - fast tracks across plateaus, slow and rough sections that were extremely uneven, valleys, oueds, camel grass and, the dunes of Merzouga with added navigational challenges to test the mettle of the riders.

COMING UP

Tomorrow, the rally will enter into its penultimate stage that will challenge the riders with the second longest special section of the rally with 321 kms to be tackled after which the roster is expected to settle into its near-final rankings.

Shlok
Ghorpade

Shlok Ghorpade, Rider, Hero MotoSports Team Rally said, “Today was another day of learning for me. I started at the back of the pack today but as the stage went on, I managed to pass quite a few riders. Unfortunately, around kilometre 130, I failed to spot a small dune that was hidden between two bigger dunes because of the sun. I came in too hot and ended up crashing over the next dune. My navigation system got damaged in the process and a few other parts as well but somehow I managed to reach the refuelling point. At that point we decided that the best course of action would be to return to the bivouac, fix the bike properly and then return to fight another day.”

Nacho
CORNEJO

Nacho Cornejo, Rider, Hero MotoSports Team Rally said, “Happy to see the back of the Stage 3 today. Having started at the back, I had a lot of catching up to do. So I tried to make up as much time as I could and was able to pass many riders. Some sections were difficult to navigate but I managed to keep my head cool and make some good decisions. Finally managed to secure a stage podium for the team coming back from the mistake of yesterday so I am happy to finally bring home a good result.”

Michael
Docherty

Mike Docherty, Rider, Hero MotoSports Team Rally said, “It was definitely a stage with most tricky navigation so I had to sacrifice a bit on speed to focus more on the road book, which was a hard thing for me to do. I have got to do some more work on the road books but for now, stage 3 is done and we are back in the bivouac safely. We’ll try again tomorrow.”
